Career Opportunities After B. Pharmacy

B. Pharmacy is a bachelor of Pharmacy which is 4 years of course, in this course, students will learn about the field of pharmacy. After completing a B. Pharmacy,  many career paths open up for B. Pharm graduates. 

Pharmacist:

 Most students after completing B.Pharmacy opt for this career. After completion of B.pharmcy, they can apply for a license and become registered pharmacists. Pharmacists in India deal with, dispensing medicines prescribed by a medical practitioner and supervising drugs. Sometimes they also educate patients about medication such as dosage form, side effects and its administration. Pharmacists can work in retail pharmacies and hospital pharmacies.

Pharmacy industry:

Career after B Pharmacy in the pharmaceutical industry is evergreen, in the industry there are various departments of pharmaceuticals such as quality assurance, research and development, Quality control and production.

Pharmaceutical industries invest in research and development department

Pharmaceutical Industries hire B.pharm graduates to control the quality of manufactured products. This step or department ensures control

In the production department of pharmaceutical Industries B pharmacy freshers can be hired as a supervisor in the manufacturing plant. After getting some years of experience in the production department, one can reach to the senior level. 

Clinical research: 

In simple terms, clinical research is a department that studies the safety, efficiency and therapeutic effect of medicine in humans. Clinical research involves departments, such as Clinical research operation, Clinical data management, and Pharmacovigilance is a different department but can be counted under clinical research. 

Clinical trials: 

Clinical trials are also known as clinical research operations. The roles for freshers in clinical trials are clinical research coordinator and clinical research associate. 

Clinical research associate: 

Clinical research associates are vital for the successful completion of clinical trials. A clinical research associate is a link between a sponsor and a company conducting the clinical trial. The role of CRA is to organise clinical trials and to follow all the regulations ( ICH GCP) guidelines. After completing a clinical research course, a B Pharmacy candidate can be eligible for this role. 

Clinical research coordinator:

The primary role of the clinical research coordinator is to recruit patients for clinical studies, and maintaining communication with patients is also part of this role. Working as a clinical research coordinator as a fresher can be a good start for a career after B pharmacy in the clinical research domain. 

Pharmacovigilance:

Profiles in pharmacovigilance domains are Drug safety associate, Clinical data manager, Pharmacovigilance scientist and Pharmacovigilance associate. The primary role of pharmacovigilance professionals is to monitor drug safety and ADR. A career after Bpharm in pharmacovigilance can be fruitful. Companies like TCS, Wipro,  IQVIA and Accenture hire B pharmacy fresher, minimum package these companies offer is 4 LPA. 

The skill required to have a career after Bpharmacy in pharmacovigilance is having accurate knowledge of pharmacology. 

Sales and Marketing:

Career option in sales and marketing has a huge scope after Bpharmacy. Pharmaceutical companies hire graduate candidates from science backgrounds to promote companies products. It helps to develop business for pharmaceutical companies. 

After completing an MBA in pharma one can reach in manager level that pays well. If you have sales skills you can grow your career in this field. 

Professor:

As many pharmacy colleges are opening, the demand for skilled professors is increasing. A B pharmacy graduate can start teaching to D pharmacy students. 

Regulatory affairs:

The Regulatory Affairs Department helps the pharmaceutical industry get acceptance from regulatory authorities. A career after B pharmacy in regulatory affairs can be rewarding. 

Hospital administration:

A career after a degree in hospital administration can be fruitful after completing an MBA in hospital administration. Due to having a Pharmacy degree a candidate can manage a hospital pharmacy. 

Health insurance:

In the domain of health insurance, B pharmacy graduates can work as underwriters. Underwriters are the link between an insurance company and a sales team. To grow a career in this domain, you need to have writing skills.

Entrepreneurship: 

If you have entrepreneurship and want to start your own business then many options are available after B pharmacy. Career options for entrepreneurs after B pharmacy:

  1. Pharmacy store: 

Opening a pharmacy store after a benign registered pharmacist can be an interesting and profitable business. Pharmacy stores can be start first step of entrepreneurship. 

  1. Wholesale business:

 If you have capital ready then you can start a business of wholesale medicine. 

To start this business you need to have:

  1. Furniture.
  2. A small amount of investment.
  3. License for wholesale of drugs.  
  1. Online Pharmacy store:

Nowadays, when everything can come to a door, and medicines are no exception to this. Before starting an online pharmacy store you need to have an offline pharmacy store and a deep understanding of the pharmacy business. 

To start this business you need to have:

  1. Team to supply the product/medicine.
  2. Team of Pharmacists to handle prescriptions and medicine.
  3. Web and software handling team ( If you’re planning to have an app).
  4. An accounting team.
  5. A customer care team.
  6. Contacts with wholesaler.
  7. Manufacturing of medicine:

To manufacture medicine you need to have a huge investment and management. You can start a small manufacturing plant and later grow into a big plant according to investment.  

To start this business you need to have:

  1. Certifications from regulatory bodies. ( manufacturing licence).
  2. Investment for equipment, labs and salary for employees.
  3. Maintenance for all instruments.
  4. Sales and marketing teams.

A career in online coaching can be fruitful and rewarding. After completing B Pharmacy one will have all the knowledge of pharmacy subject. You can help to clear concepts to B Pharmacy students by giving them coaching, You can be a chemistry teacher to 11th and 12th graders. 

To start this business you need to have:

  1. You need to have an internet connection.
  2. Video calling facilities or any coaching app after establishing the business. 
  3. PDF notes to share with students.
  1. Publish health-related books:

If you have great writing skills and healthcare knowledge, you can write about your knowledge and publish it on Amazon and Flipkart.  

Government Jobs after B Pharmacy:

SBI Pharmacists:

SBI pharmacists will be distributing medicines and consult patients in State Bank of India branches. To get hired as SBI Pharmacists recruitment exams should be qualified. 

Railway Pharmacists:

Dispensing medicines and consulate within the railway system.  To get hired as a Railway pharmacist, the Railway Pharmacists recruitment exam should be qualified. 

MPSC Pharmacists:

MPSC Pharmacists can distribute medication under the Maharashtra Public Service Commission. You can start your career as an MPSC Pharmacist after clearing the MPSC pharmacist recruitment exam.  

Drug Inspector: 

A career as a drug inspector after B pharmacy is very demanding, This is a government job you need to qualify for exams for this, selection process is conducted by UPSC ( Union Public Service Commission)  or SPSC ( State Public Service Commission).

Drug inspector performs a variety of duties, inspecting the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products. Inspecting pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, pharmacies and drug distribution facilities

Odisha Public Service Commission:

It ensures compliance with drug regulations under the Odisha Public Service Commission. To be hired as a Drug Inspector In Odisha candidate should qualify  OPSC drug inspector recruitment exam and interview. 

Telangana Public Service Commission:

 TSPC drug inspector recruitment exam must be qualified. 

Bihar Public Service Commission:

BPSC drug inspector recruitment exam must be qualified.

Maharashtra Public Service Commission:

MPSC drug inspector recruitment exam must be qualified.
