NABI- National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. NABI is involved in research activities for biofortification, improving nutrition developing designer crops, supplying sustainable and noble solutions for quality food and nutrition and developing evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition.
For July 2024, the National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, Mohali is inviting interested students to apply for PhD degree in biotechnology. NABI is recognised by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology ( RCB), Faridabad for conducting PhD programs. The degree will be provided by RCB ( an institute of national importance established through an act parliament) and the program conducted at NABI.

Essential Qualification:
- MSc/ MTech in any area of life sciences/ Mpharm/ MVSc or an equivalent degree.
- 55% total score or equivalent marks in qualifying degree ( 5% relaxation in marks or Sc/ST/ OBC /PWD class)
- In addition, Candidates who want to be admitted to PhD program must qualify national level test to pursue the Doctor of Philosophy program. These tests include admission tests conducted by government agencies like the University Grants Commission, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research ( CSIR), the Indian Council for Medical Research ( ICMR), the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology or any other government-recognised agency.
- Additionally, applicants who have qualified for GATE or any national-level exam will be considered for admission.
- Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing in the final year can apply but at the time of admission, documents should be ready with them.
Duration of PhD course: The duration is 5 years and a maximum of 7 years.
Area of PhD research work:
Agricultural biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, Nutrition Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Nanobiosciences, Post-harvest technology, Functional foods, Genomics and Computational Biology
Fellowship:
- The student admitted to the program should have their fellowship from recognised granting agencies.
- Based on Merit, students who are not able to get a fellowship may be offered the NABI- core fellowship to a limited number of selected candidates. There are 25 seats, and the reservation is as follows:
- 27% for OBC candidates, 15% for seats for SC, 7.5 % for ST and 5% for PWD candidates.
- All reserved category candidates are required to submit a certificate of categories.
Selecting process.
The application can be processed online mode only. Incomplete applications will be rejected.. Shortlisting will be based on Merit.
